Several weeks ago, a dozen, malnourished, injured
and sickly Chihuahuas made their way to Angel’s
Gate, from Alabama to New York. They were immediately
admitted to Jockeyport Animal Hospital in Afton
for emergency treatment. Three days later they
returned to Angel’s Gate for the nursing
care that they so desperately needed. Their physical
needs were dire. These dogs have suffered from
a lifetime of being caged, starvation, parasitic
infestation and chronic physical pain due to untreated
fractures and dislocated joints. Their spirits
were broken. You could see the despair in their
eyes.
Chihuahua Update:
Thank you to all who have contributed to the care
of our very special Chihuahuas. The girls look
like little Divas in their new outfits and the
boys are so dapper in their new duds. The dogs
love their new snuggly beds, and enjoy riding
in their new stroller on warmer days. They are
all recovering from their surgeries. They have
all been spayed and neutered, had tumors removed,
dentals (tooth removal) and hernias repaired.
Tulip, Grace and Freda are very old and we make
sure they are warm and comfortable. Suzy, Ginger,
CoCo, Maxine, Rose, Nell and the boys run around
with great abandon and are learning to play with
toys and each other. CoCo and Ginger continue
to have high white cell counts so they are on
antibiotics and will be rechecked at the end of
the month. You have made a great difference in
the lives of these innocent victims. Several of
these dogs may not have a lot of time. We are
celebrating their lives and when they go on to
whatever awaits them they will know for sure that
they were loved. Thank you for being a part of
this mission.
